Water Avenue┃Pinot Noir Aged El Salvador

This week’s featured coffee comes from Water Avenue Coffee Company. We first read about this coffee in a write up about the Cold Brew Throwdown hosted by Stumptown. We were intrigued after learning about this coffee's unusual processing, and we had to give it a try! In collaboration with Sokol Blosser Winery of Oregon, Water Avenue aged the green coffee in oak barrels that held the winery's Pinot Noir.

COFFEE SPECS

  • Producer:  Menendez Family Farm
  • Country: El Salvador
  • Cultivar:  N/A
  • Process:  N/A
  • Elevation: N/A

HOW WE BREWED IT

  • 60g medium grind
  • 700ml ice/water mix
  • 1 drip/second initial drip rate
  • ~6 hour brew

The aroma of the brewed cold brew is unmistakably grape flavored Jolly Ranchers. The first sip is pretty tart, but the following tastes yield vanilla with a juicy peach aftertaste. This coffee's tartness may be a little intense if you're drinking it on it's own, but we think it would be perfect when mixed with something sweet. We're thinking vanilla ice-cream for a cold brewed affogato. Pick up a bag here.
