This week's featured coffee is Blue Bottle Coffee's Bella Donovan. Recently, (and for as long as I can remember) we've been brewing up a lot of single origin African coffees. We thought it would be good to change gears a bit, and try something a little different. Along side Blue Bottle's great selection of African single origins is their year-round blend Bella Donovan. A mix of Ethiopian and Sumatran coffee, they call it "the wool sweater of our blends -- warm, comforting, familiar." It's also their most popular blend, and a little darker on the roast scale from what we've become accustomed to.
This cold brew reminds us of biting into a toasted marshmellow. The roast flavor of the coffee comes through immediately (along with a little bitterness) followed by a caramelized sweetness. There's a hint of the citrus from the Ethiopian, but the roast flavors quickly mellow it out. In the end, the roast flavors dominate. If you enjoy darker roasted coffee, this is a good one to try.
If you'd like to try it for yourself, you can get it here!
